I used to have a few songs by Pink Floyd on my iPod and this was one of them. I’ve always liked the music in it. The song was released in 1975 off their album of the same name.
According to founding member & co-lead vocalist Roger Waters, the lyrics were inspired by former bandmate Syd Barrett who struggled with mental illness. He died in 2006 from cancer. It also talks about the feeling of alienation from other people. David Gilmour and Waters collaborated to complete the song.
I don’t know what made me choose this song for this entry, but coincidently today’s date, June 16th, marks four years since a family friend’s son committed suicide.
How I wish, how I wish you were here. We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year. Running over the same old ground. What have we found-the same old fears. Wish you were here.
