Somebody’s Baby by Jackson Browne.

I was looking through movie soundtracks from the 80’s today and found this one which was featured in the movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High. (Unrelated note: It was because of Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) that checkerboard Vans became so popular!)

Somebody’s Baby was released in 1982 on the movie soundtrack but not on any of Browne’s albums until many years later when it was included as a track on his greatest hits. It reached #7 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and is one of the most popular tracks from the movie.

The song is about a guy who is infatuated with a girl but he convinces himself that she already has a boyfriend. He wants to talk to her but can’t work up the courage to do it.
