Quicksand by Incubus.

It’s hard to believe that the album this song came from, Light Grenades, was released nearly five years ago now. It feels like yesterday when their single Dig hit the radio. Looking back on it though, I guess it was around my Freshman year of college when I was listening to the album a lot. Time really does fly…

Quicksand never made it as a single, but it is the first track on the album, most likely intended as a simple intro at 2 minutes and 41 seconds. I wish the band would have gone further with it, but I guess it’s just enough to get the point across. Maybe it started off as a poem rather than song lyrics. The band’s singer, Brandon Boyd, is known for his poetry and has released a couple of books.

Ok…now the monster is awake
It won’t rest until there’s nothing left
Maybe ever and anon
I forget about the pain
Someone bending light comes along
and flowers lean towards the sun
Some people fall in love and touch the sky
Some people fall in love and find Quicksand
I hover somewhere in between…I swear…
I can’t make up my mind
