The Supremes. Where do I begin? They opened new doors and inspired many generations of female artists. Diana Ross became an icon in the music industry.
The trio got together in 1959 and it took a few years before one of their singles would hit the charts. Their first number one hit was in 1964 with the song, Where Did Our Love Go? which was originally written for another group who rejected it. The Supremes didn’t really favor the track but producers encouraged them to record it. It made #1 on the Billboard charts and instantly gave them the fame they were looking for.
Four consecutive number one hits followed, “Baby Love,” “Come See About Me,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” and “Back in My Arms Again.” Ross eventually left The Supremes and their last performance as a group took place on January 14, 1970 at the Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas. She went onto a solo career.
My World is Empty Without You was actually one of the tracks that never hit number one on the charts. However, it did make #5 for two weeks in 1965.
