Such a great 80’s song. But such a ridiculous video. I’m disappointed.
If you judge this song by the music (& the video for that matter), you’d presume it has a completely positive view on love. Well, music is misleading because the lyrics say otherwise. It’s optimistic but at the same time, it’s realistic – showing the hardships of love.
Love can make you weep, can make you run for cover. Roots that spread so deep, bring life to frozen ground. Something so strong could carry us away. Something so strong could carry us today. Turning in my sleep, love can leave you cold. The taste of jealousy is like a lust for gold. Something so strong could carry us away.
Something So Strong was released in April of 1987 from their self-titled debut. It was the last single from that album. The track did very well in the United States reaching #7 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Another popular track from that album is Don’t Dream It’s Over which was used in Stephen King’s miniseries, The Stand.
Is it just me or do they not take this song very seriously?
