Most of us, if not all of us, probably think of The Breakfast Club whenever we hear this song. That’s why I thought this tribute video I found on You Tube would be perfect for today’s entry. Plus, I’ll be meeting Anthony Michael Hall in a little less than a month now, I’m looking forward to it!
Don’t You (Forget About Me) was written by Keith Forsey (Flashdance) and Steve Schiff (guitarist & songwriter for the Nina Hagen band). It was released by Simple Minds in February of 1985 on The Breakfast Club soundtrack. Before Simple Minds got the track, three other musicians (Cy Curnin from The Fixx, Bryan Ferry, and Billy Idol) were asked if they wanted to record it but all of them declined.
The song was very successful throughout the world ranking in the Top 10 in the US (#1), UK (#7), Canada (#1), New Zealand (#3), Italy (#2), Belgium (#2) and so on. However, the band never included it on any of their albums until 1992 when they released a compilation album called Glittering Prize 81/92.
