Today would have been Layne Staley’s 44th birthday. Do you ever wonder what it would be like if he was still here today? What he would look like, where Alice in Chains would be, would he have a solo project or other collaborations? Would he pursue his talent in drawing? Maybe married? Have children?
We’ll never know. But I know that many of us think about it. We only wish that we could save all the people who struggle with addiction. We want to see them turn everything around and live a happy and healthy life. But unfortunately, we can’t save them. They have to save themselves.
The world has a lost a lot of great talents over the years including Layne, whose voice was truly one of a kind and can never be matched by anyone. He was a caring and loving person, he was someone you couldn’t help but like.
Even though Layne is no longer with us, I feel we are so lucky to know him through his music in Alice in Chains and Mad Season. He will always be alive in spirit through his fans. I have chosen the video of Down in a Hole for today’s entry because it’s one of my favorites. Layne looks healthy in it too, which makes the video all the more close to me. I love the part when he reaches his hand out near the end.
Happy Birthday, Layne Staley. I hope you and Mike Starr are up there in heaven rockin’ out in celebration. I love you.
