You can’t deny it, Darius Rucker has one of the best voices in music.
Something made me think of this song today. I guess I’ve been feeling down lately. If you read my entry for “Seekir” by Zola Jesus, some of it is related to that. All I want to do is cry. That’s how I feel most days now.
Let Her Cry was released as a single in December of 1994 from their debut album, Cracked Rear View. It made #2 on Billboard’s Top 40 and #9 on Hot 100. It also earned the band a Grammy in 1996.
According to songfacts, the song is about a man struggling to cope with his wife who is an alcoholic. Rucker stated that he wrote it about his past but with the genders reversed – he was the one with the alcohol problem and his girlfriend had struggled to keep the relationship together.
I never realized he made a reference to Michael Stipe in this song…ironic..because R.E.M. just broke up.
Anyways, above is a great live performance. Enjoy…
