I never associated this song with Eric Clapton, I’m not sure why. I think I’m just used to his 90’s releases, which weren’t quite like his classic stuff.
Let it Rain was released on his debut solo album in August of 1970. However, it didn’t become a single until 1972 (according to Songfacts).
Clapton wrote the song with Bonnie and Delaney Bramlett while touring together in 1969. (Remember Bonnie? She was in the 90’s television show, Roseanne! See her in my past entry HERE.) Clapton was touring with Blind Faith and The Bramletts were the supporting act with their group, Delaney And Bonnie.
Shortly after the tour, Blind Faith broke up and Clapton formed Derek and the Dominos with Delaney and Bonnie’s backup group, who Clapton became friends with. Bonnie is one of the backup singers in the original recording.
Above is a live performance from 1986. Recognize the drummer? It’s Phil Collins!!!
