Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) by A Flock of Seagulls.

A Flock of Seagulls has a knack for writing catchy pop & dreamy love songs. I’ve never been much for love songs but they could pull it off without being too sappy. They also have some of the most beautiful music to go along with it. Therefore, you’ll definitely find a few of their tracks on my iPod, including this one.

Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) was released in 1982 from the album Listen. It wasn’t as popular in the US as their breakthrough hit, I Ran, but it gained attention in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, and Canada. It became a top 10 hit overseas but only reached #26 on Billboard’s Hot 100.

The original demo was about 14 minutes but it was cut down to just over five minutes for the final version. The lyrics describe a man who wishes he had a photograph of a girl he can’t gain the attention of. He wishes that they could be together but if it doesn’t happen, he’d simply want a photograph of her to always remember.
