Alanis Morissette quickly gained the reputation of a woman that was really pissed off during the 1990’s. Like every artist in the world, she probably received mixed reviews based on her very raw lyrics with no limitations. But to all the bitter, angry, and scorned people in the world…Alanis was a hero.
You Oughta Know was released in July of 1995 from her third album, Jagged Little Pill. This album would also carry her famous hits Ironic, Hand in My Pocket, and You Learn.
The song made #1 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks and #6 on the Hot 100. It also won her two Grammy awards, Best Rock Song, and Best Female Rock Vocal performance. In 2007, VH1 ranked the song #12 of the 100 Greatest Songs of the 90’s.
Now isn’t this song rumored to be about Dave Coulier aka Uncle Joey from Full House? Yep, but the rumor is still unconfirmed. They dated in the early 90’s after meeting at a hockey game in 1992. Coulier has stated in interviews that he thinks it’s about him because the lyrics hit close to home. However, we’ll never know for sure unless Alanis decides to reveal the identity of the mystery man….
Until then, check out this live acoustic performance.
