In Memory of Mindy McCready (1975-2013).

mindy-mccready-300Despite Mindy’s struggles over the years, I definitely wasn’t expecting this. I had read about her boyfriend’s suicide recently and wondered how she was going to cope…but I never thought she’d take her own life. I never thought she’d leave her two little boys.

I don’t really listen to country music so I actually knew who Mindy was through her appearance on season 3 of Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab. She is now the third person from that season to have passed away – Mike Starr died in 2011, Joey Kovar in 2012. So sad.

I hope that Mindy is now at peace from all the demons she couldn’t defeat. I wish she had tried to seek help but maybe she didn’t feel “help” could save her anymore. Wherever you are Mindy, I hope you found the light and tranquility…

Ten Thousand Angels was released as a single in April of 1996 from Mindy’s debut album of the same name. It went to #6 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles and Tracks. It also went to #13 in Canada.

Above is the official video. Rest in Peace, Mindy.

Quittin’ Time by Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Sometimes songs just fall into your lap. Maybe you heard it before but never connected with it until that exact moment when every lyric pulled on your heart strings. Today’s song is about a relationship that doesn’t have much of a future due to circumstances beyond the couple’s control. The hardest part is admitting that maybe it’s best to say goodbye. It’s so hard admittin’ when it’s quittin’ time…

Quittin’ Time was released as a single in March of 1990 from Carpenter’s second album, State of the Heart. It went to #7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks. It also went to #8 on Canada’s RPM Country Tracks.

Above is the audio. There might be a brief ad before the song plays which you can skip after five seconds.
