Golden Haze by Wild Nothing.

Well, summer is slowly coming to a close. The kids are back in school and you’ve just fit in that last-minute vacation before it’s back to work and cooler weather. Why not throw in one last summer song to end it with grace?

Golden Haze was released in 2010 from Wild Nothing’s EP of the same name. It came out shortly after their debut album, Gemini, which was very popular on the indie circuit. They have since released a third album, Empty Estate, this past May.

Love Goes On! by The Go-Betweens.

Grant McLennan was once described as, “One of the last real romantic bohemians” in an article that appeared shortly after his death in 2006. I always remembered that description and thought, how true it was…

The song above, Love Goes On!, was released in August of 1988 from the band’s sixth album, 16 Lovers Lane. Grant wrote the lyrics and sings it.

The people next door got their problems, they got things they can’t name. I know a thing about lovers, lovers don’t feel any shame. Late at night with the lights down low, the candle burns to the end. I know a thing about darkness, darkness ain’t my friend.”

The song was unfortunately never released as a single. However, if you’re interested in seeing it performed live, click HERE. This is a full show from the early to mid-90’s. He plays it around the 50: minute mark.

Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye.

I saw “Gotye” plenty of times on Sirius radio but because I didn’t recognize it, I went to the next station. It wasn’t until I was streaming a Dublin radio station one night that I came in during the part where Kimbra sings and it goes into the chorus. My first impression was, “Okay…I can relate to this song.” My second reaction was, “This guy kinda sounds like Sting. Especially in the chorus.” I think Sting & The Police could redo this song with no problem, don’t you?

Somebody That I Used To Know was released as a single in the US and Ireland during January of 2012. However, it was released in July of 2011 in Australia and New Zealand. The single was super successful all over the world taking the #1 spot in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Ireland, United States, and United Kingdom among several others. Another relationship song that people all over the world could relate to.

Above is the official video. It’s very…unique?
